Man, that is one cool Vaquero. Wish I had what you need for it, it would be a perfect companion to my Old Model Vaquero with the 4 5/8" barrel. Is yours an Old Model or a New Model Vaquero?
Oh yeah, some 0000 steel wool will take that rust right off and not harm the finish at all.
It won't say it on the gun itself, I'm not sure when the "new model" was started but the new models can't handle ammo like I have for my old model. I have some CorBon 300gr JSP's that are 1300 fps at the muzzle, those will crack the frame on the new models if you fire enough of them, not a problem with the old models. Either way that short barrel and birds head grip is extremely cool.
I'm thinking yours is most likely a new model. With that shorter barrel and smaller birds head grip I wouldn't want to shoot any of those CorBons in it even if it was an old model. Those things kick like a freakin' mule in my gun. Lol! You should see the looks on people's faces when I touch off one of those rounds, they're like "What the hell are you shooting, a friggin' cannon?" Lol!
