Item Description: She's back! This is the, uh, ambidextrous Mauser that I posted about a while ago with a right hand bolt and a left hand cheek rest. This gun has an excellent bore, Timney Sportsman trigger, and a low profile safety. This rifle has been rebarreled, and the caliber is unknown. If you force me to guess, I say it's a 243 Winchester, but the gun should have a chamber cast and the barrel slugged to be sure. You might as well throw a headspace check in there for good measure.
This gun shows plenty of evidence of poor storage. I took off the first layer, but there is some more detail work that could be done. The bolt release lever is sticky...it may just need a better cleaning, but it might need a new spring. The scope is a commercial 6X Stith Kollmorgen with a Buehler base and 1" rings which might be of interest to some people but it's a pretty poor excuse for a scope considered against any modern version. It's old enough so that the crosshairs aren't even automatically centered!
I don't know much about the gun, but it appears that the sporterization was skillfully done. Stock is handcheckered...complete on the beavertail forend, but just the outline was completed on the pistol grip. You'll have a nice project for those upcoming long winter evenings!
