Item Description: Post-war alloy frame P38 with one magazine. Stamped with 2/61 date code. In good shape for a 60 year old pistol.

This is actually a post war Walther P1; the 3 makers of the P38 ended production after WW2, including Walther.

No, it's a post-war alloy frame P38, as I stated in the item description. P1 designation didn't exist until 1963 when the Bundeswehr officially adopted the handgun as their main sidearm. This pistol was made in 1961 predating that designation.

You are correct, I didn’t realize they produced the P38 for 6 years between 1957 and 1963. I saw the markings and the aluminum frame and thought of the P1. This could have been used by the German military or police. GLWS
