Very clean, complete, and functionally reliable example of the fabled and highly collectible Winchester 1895 Russian Contract Musket in 7.62X54R.
All the military features are present—stripper clip guide, bayonet lug, ladder sights, QD studs, etc.
The rifle is complete. Unmolested.
If you don’t know the history on these (and if you’ve somehow never played BF1), they were ordered by the Czar’s Imperial Russian Army during WWI. Winchester began making deliveries in 1915, and these dried up by the fall of 1917. Production ceased forever by the spring of 1918 as the Russian Civil War picked up steam after the murder of the royal family by Bolshevik revolutionaries.
That makes this one of the rarer, more curious military lever action rifles with cross-appeal to both Winchester and WWI/Russian collectors.
They do not show up often in this part of the world. They command a high ticket when they do. I’ve attached recent auction results of the type. Even in destroyed, sporterized condition, these are bringing nearly $5K. I’m going to be pretty firm at 55 and selective with trades.
This particular rifle was made in 1916. It is NOT import marked. Bore is fair for its age and service. Strong rifling. Groups well. Very good overall condition.
A note: the sling and swivels are NOT included. I should’ve taken them off before I photographed the thing. Apologies. The studs are of course present and ready to accommodate your sling.
Another note: The No.3 is NOT available—that’s my wife’s gun. 🤣
