Even though a Hawkeye is not period correct to the stock it is still very cool. I had my mark two bead blasted back in the mid 90's to give it a dull finish. Hawkeye before Hawkeye was cool.
 
After my Dads 243 with a Boyd’s stock was stolen from my sisters house, I gave the original skeleton stock to a local gunsmith never dreaming they would be so popular. They were not that well liked b/c of the lack of sling swivel stud in unmolested condition.

I agree, even though it's not period correct ( not bashing I would own it for sure) if you were going to hunt with it, its much more practical and has a much better trigger with the L6 trigger than the MarkII and looks great. GLWS
