Item Description: Hello All,

I have a Ruger M77V 7.62 NATO Heavy Barrel Sniper Rifle that was born in the late 70's and was used in active duty by the person I purchased it from over 20 years ago. The question I have is.. does the fact that it has a history make it any more valuable? Now I know what you will say... only if the person buying it thinks so. :)

It is in very good shape and has a Weaver T10 Duplex Reticle Optic and has had 886 rounds sent down range. I got this from a gentleman who shall remain anonymous, however I have seen him in several books about the first UDT teams in Vietnam. My brother worked with him, and after several conversations, I have no doubt that what he has documented about the rifle is accurate.

He included a hand written card that has all the information above plus the types of ammo that shoot well, and the effective ranges as well as the maximum active duty ranges. It also has a note about the longest casualty producing shot that resulted in a fatality.

I know that when I got this, all of that stuff seemed very interesting and kind of cool. I still kind of think that.. however I would love others opinions about it.

Thanks in advance

P.S. The price is just a goof... I know it is not worth that much.

I've seen a few of those floating around here and there. Last I checked, the VLE was still available from Ruger, but it's been a minute since I've looked. Wasn't that long ago that I saw a brand new one in .223 available for sale.

The VLE is the same rifle as the Ruger M77 VT .308 target/varmint rifle, with a few cosmetic differences:

1. Matte black finish for the VLE, matte gray for the VT.
2. Gray laminate stock for the VLE, brown laminate stock for the VT. Other than that, the stock are identical.
3. VLE shipped with a Harris bipod, while the VT did not.

Both had 26' medium weight barrels, of a contour that was a bit lighter than most Sniper rifles.

Very nice, I would think with that kind of service life it would exhibit more signs of use though?
Yep, I have always thought that myself.

Well, its a good rifle and shoots way better than I do. I had a guy that I worked with, who shot bench rest and was also a trained sniper, he took a couple of shots with it and blew me away. I like to shoot, but I have never claimed to be anything by an enthusiast. I think when I got it, they "War Story" got me. I did not pay for the story, in fact I got the rifle at a very low price. So I will chalk it up to a neat story all around.
