Looks like a pre-model 10. Possibly a Victory model. does the barrel say 38 s&w or 38 special?

It is an M&P 4th Change, probably just before Wartime guns. The only "Victory" Smiths with patent dates on the barrel are the earliest BSR's from 1939-1940. The 4" barrel would also suggest 38 SPL, as most British Victories in 38-200 had a 5" barrel. Would make a fine shooter if it is mechanically sound. GLWS

just can't find any glasses with high enough power at the moment; plastic grips, patent dates are feb.,sept.,dec., 14..... barrel right side reads "S & W Special ctg" [maybe].. I have shot 6 rounds thru the gun with no problem.
