There are some components on the KSG that can help determine, but difficult to describe. You can't tell the date of manufacture of a Kel Tec by the serial number. All you can tell is the number of the unit made...in order. Kel Tec has made over 50,000 KSG...so any number above 25,000 will be a 2nd gen. If your serial number begins with an "R" it's a gen 1.

There's a formula for figuring out the number...I posted it below. If the serial number has an "X" in the beginning you disregard as that is just a Kel Tec designation.
