Item Description: I've got an old smith and wesson 6 shot 38 special. The gun doesn't have the smith roll mark. I got in touch with a ffl that's very knowledgeable about older firearms. And after looking at the serial number and way the gun is built it was identified as a 5 screw smith and wesson. Made between 1942 and 1944. I'm just testing the waters to see whats out there before I go through the smith and wesson historical foundation for them to look up and give me all the info on this revolver.

Well, in the standard military victory configuration it would've been as ugly as a a G.I. entrenching spade.

This nickled beauty looks great --although I'd lose the rubber grips and put some handsome wooden stocks on it if it were mine.

It's a shooter, for sure, no collectors value at this time. It's in the same category as a bolt action military surplus rifle that somebody chopped the barrel to 20 inches, put into a Monte Carlo stock, and drilled the receiver for scope bases.

As a shooter, a K-frame 6-shot 38 snubby is a good gun. I have one!
Reliable as a ball-peen hammer and simple to operate in a panic.

The only thing about these is the front lock has been cut away and leaves the crane with no end support.

I've seen them blow the forcing cone out from misalignment when converted from .38S&W to .38 SPL.

If I'm not mistaken, the "factory letter" costs $100, now. Your gun, but I wouldn't spend that much money on it, You won't get much more information that what you have received here.

Where is the 5th screw?
I'm not seeing it but could just be angle of pics.
if it's 5 screw, there is a screw in the front of the trigger guard.

I have a couple of Victory models, but don't recall if they are 5 screw. One is identical to OP's gun, but mine has the markings.
