Item Name: Item Gone: Need advice from diesel mechanic

Location:

Item is for: Sale/Trade NOT SPECIFIED

Willing to Ship: No

Bill of Sale Required?: No

Item Description: I'm currently looking at getting a 2010 Ford F-250 king ranch with the 6.4 and 115,000 miles on it. Truck looks clean and carfax comes back with all recommended maintenance done but I know the 6.0 and 6.4 can have catastrophic issues. If I get it, I would be looking at doing a full delete/tune. Any diesel mechanics out there have any advice/cautionary tips on what they think I should do? Thanks for the help.

Whether anyone wants to admit it, they are all a risk right now. My cousin has a '14 Dodge 2500 6.7L diesel that just lost the turbo and turbo actuator at 50k miles...cost $6k to fix.

Are you looking into getting a tune or deleting one. If tuning is your goal be careful some tuners delete torque limits that can that can cause premature failure to your drivetrain. Not good. Also I believe there is a kit to replace certain fueling parts that will eliminate the engine failures. Not expensive as far as desiels go. Install can cost though.

You might look into replacing the particulate filter. They are rated at 150,000 miles and will break down and allow fuel into the oil. That's a costly replace. If you can find someone to do it. I would do on the cheap but I live in VA. Now. After replaced you will be good for another 150,000 miles.
