Item Name: Why .380??

Location: Marietta

Item is for: Sale/Trade NOT SPECIFIED

Willing to Ship: No

Bill of Sale Required?: No

Item Description: I bought a Sig 238 once, sold it here on ODT and bought a Sig 938 instead. 9mm is cheaper and more powerful, so with so many tiny 9mm pocket guns out there, why buy a .380?

The compact 9mm guns are NOT the same size as the smallest .380 pistols.
The nines are bigger. AND, they have a heavier recoil spring, which can make them difficult for women and senior citizens to operate.

The OP specified "pocket" guns and I'll stick to that theme. I've owned a Shield and a 938. I currently own a G43. I also own an LCP. If I'm pocket carrying it is going to be the LCP every single time no question. The 9mms are noticeably bigger and thicker in the pocket AND more difficult to draw out of pocket. I am comfortable with the 1911 MOA, but there is no way I'm going to carry a 1911 style pistol (938) cocked and locked in a blue jean pocket. Find me a 9mm that is as small as an LCP (or even close, because the current crop of small 9mms are not) and I will carry it.

9mm in a Shield is not bad at all, and has roughly twice the energy of the "9mm Short"

Shield is not a pocket gun for most people..

Watch the movie "Key Largo" sometime. 1948 movie and the story takes place contemporaneously. All of the principal men actors are wearing stylish pants which we would now called "relaxed fit." The movie's resolution depends on Humphrey Bogart easily carrying something along the line of a Colt Police Positive with a 4" barrel. Several other times in the movie, one or another of the characters pulls out a "piece" from his pants pockets - holsters apparently were not a 1940's fashion accessory.

Point is that "pocket carry" depends on the pocket. I routinely carry a 1903 S&W Hand Ejector in my pocket.

By the way, Key Largo is a great movie with some great actors of the 40's in it.

IMO .380 is a less than lethal round but it can kill, and it does allow me distance to access a killing round.

I carry it almost always.
