Manufactured in 1939, this 4 inch barrel Military & Police .38 Revolver was carried by special agent Melvin J. Clark who was killed during a moonshine raid in North Georgia June 1, 1947. Clark was the former Hall County sheriff who became a federal agent in 1944 to continue his many years of law enforcement service. More about the circumstances of his demise may be found at https://www.atf.gov/our-history/fallen-agents/melvin-j-clark

This was my grandfather's pistol I inherited from two generations of military and law enforcement servicemen.

My great uncle was with the GBI around the time your grandfather was working. He used to chase moonshiners in North Georgia, around Toccoa. There is a good chance he was out there at some point, either on the raid or later for the fugitive search.

Those men were just built different back then. I have almost an identical revolver to yours. It belonged to my uncle and was his first service pistol. He gave it to my grandfather, that's how I got it.
