Cartouches are stamped into the wood
they signify or did three things

checked for working condition
fired with proofround and checked for damage (circle P serif or non serif)
Accepted by Ordnance dept (DAS)

often these have been sanded off during rebuilds like when barrel was replaced


I really like the greenish patina the parkerization has looks great

Ok. Thanks for the info. I'm new to the Garand club. I really wanted a Winchester or IHC Garand. That's kind of why I'm selling this one.

IHC and WRA are both expensive, the more correct the more expensive

they are however very collectible
