Item Description: Ithaca M1911. Made sometime in 1943, shipped to the US Army in September, 1943.
909104 dates to September/October 1943 production.
This one has a few interesting marks:
First is the Ithaca replacement slide marked with the model designation. Late in 1943 when the Ordnance Dept. dropped the requirement for spare slides to be marked with the M1911A1 model designation, Ithaca used many of the "spare" slides in regular production. This created what collectors have termed the "double stamped" Ithacas.
Second are the RIA and FK markings. These tell us the pistol was inspected at Rock Island Arsenal some time between 1941 and 1949 when Frank Krack was heading up the rebuild program. It looks like this gun passed inspection and was not rebuilt, as the finish appears original.
