Item Description: Offered here is a New, Unfired, Bulgarian SSR-85C2 in 7.62X39 caliber, made by "ISD Bulgaria" in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The SSR-85C2 AK variant is unique in that it is a hybrid design which combines the complete barrel assembly, sights, bolt and carrier, top cover, and trigger group parts from an original unissued Bulgarian military production Type 3 AK47 milled receiver rifle with an AKM style stamped receiver, trunnions, triggerguard, and Bulgarian AK-74 style stock set.
These rifles were originally designed and produced according to specifications ordered by Arsenal USA (which was subsequently also known as Armory USA and Global Trades) in Houston, Texas back during the Federal Assault Rifle Ban era. Arsenal USA/Armory USA/Global Trades was the importer and distributor of these rifles in the USA, and ISD Bulgaria marketed them (and still does) in Europe. When Armory USA/Global Trades went under and closed up shop, Tennessee Guns (TGI) purchased the remaining guns for the Global Trades contract from ISD and assumed Global's role as the importer and distributor of this model.
The Arsenal/Armory/Global rifles had a 1.6mm receiver instead of the standard 1mm receiver found on most stamped receiver AK's, the TGI imported ones came with both 1.6mm receivers and 1mm receivers. This gun appears to have the 1 mm receiver and is built like a tank.
