Plating can be removed by electrolysis , has to submerged in a sulfuric acid solution with electric current run through. Needs to be done by a professional with right equipment, then would need to have original finish reapplied. Really best to leave as is, wouldn't be worth the cost as you would still have a refinished gun not original.

What you have there is a walther model hp ,it was originally a beautiful high polished commercial p38 made during ww2, some were in the service of the nazi's and would have been waffen stamped with eagle 359. It would also have plastic (bakelite) grips if the mag is marked 706 it is probably also marked jvd it is a nazi mag but not original to the pistol. If the gun hadn't been plated its value in excellent condition would be around 1500 and up. To bad it was plated it is a rarer ww2 p38 .

All this is correct. Very rare bird here. REALLY a shame it has been refinished. Still a piece of history though.

Best part about this pistol is it was made at the ORIGINAL Zella-Mehlis walther factory. That factory was blown up in 1945.
