Item Relisted! FS/FT Miracle Polishing Cloth - Gentlemen, buff your cylinders . . . !

How long does a cloth last? In other words, can I get multiple cleanings out of one cloth or is it a one and done deal?

Thanks

They last quite a while...they are really good for giving guns a quick wipe down. I used it on a certain railed Ed Brown all the time. They get pretty darn dirty and look like they are tasked but I have yet to really need to replace one.

SchmittZoid can elaborate but that's just my experience.

Thank you sir. Speaking of that certain Ed Brown...I just had to clean it yesterday after running it hard. In fact, I think I need to post up the before pics in the dirty 1911 thread.

JJ,

I've been using the same ones for years. The cloths are impregnated with a silicone based wax and are functional until that silicone wax has been pretty much used up. The good thing I've noticed is that the silicone wax does not dry out easily, but I do recommend that you store the cloth in the protective bag it comes in to prolong its life.

As you use the cloth to polish/clean, they lift off the carbon and oxidation from the metal and leave a thin coat of wax behind. After cleaning, you need to BUFF the item with a clean, lint free cloth to get the best, high gloss results.

These cloths do get DARK when you use them. The coloration is a combination of dirt and oxidation stripped from the metal. The cloth works just fine even if heavily discolored. You will notice that the darkness lightens over time. These cloths continue to work until there is no more silicone wax left in them.

DO NOT WASH them! You will remove all the protective cleaning goodness from them. Keep using them, even if dark colored. Does not affect their performance. Here is what one looks like after about a year of odd cleaning jobs. I do notice that the dark areas will "lighten" over time, but they never get back to the original color of the cloth.

Hope this helps.

Here is a "before and after" photo of a couple of old tarnished brass casings I had laying around. Crappy lighting, but I hope you get the idea.

I forgot to mention one use for these that I experimented with. Had a DVD from Redbox that wouldn't play once.

Thought I could mask the scratches with the silicone in the polishing cloths. After cleaning and buffing the playing surface with a clean dry cloth real well, the DVD unbelievably played. Found this also worked on CD's as well.
