Up for sale is an unusual Antique model 1888-90 variant Mannlicher rifle. The M1888 was the first 8mm Mannlicher military rifle. But, it was black powder. So, in 1890, the Austrian military began retrofitting the ‘88s to shoot the new 8x50 smokeless round. The most noticeable change is the steel plates attached to the rear sight to allow adjustment for the flatter shooting smokeless round. Although, quickly superseded by the Model 1895, the 1888-90 was used during WWI and distributed to a couple dozen countries.
This on probably wound up in North Africa. In fair condition, but completely functional. I bought it off a fellow ODT’er a while back, because I’ve never had one. I love the history behind it. But, as a leftie, straight pulls are damn near impossible for me to shoot!
SPECIAL it’s only $190! Will meet at Bass Pro Shop parking lot in Lawrenceville.
