This is so true. People wanting you to basically give it to them for nothing.
I disagree. When a sale price is discussed, perceived practical, market and intrinsic valuation are all part of the equation and they are all subjective. An item's value will differ from person to person, and from market to market. For an item like this, supply and demand plays a large part in determining the price, but so does market inflation, as well as the perceived or intrinsic value of the goods in question.
If low ball offers are being given, it isn't insulting or a waste of time. It's simply someone else weighting the valuation curves differently than the owner. The opposite often occurs as well - specifically in the case of online auctions where items sell far beyond their actual market "value". At the end of the day, a good deal is just a state of mind where the price paid is equal to the value received.
