Not quite accurate. I have a Gen 2 .308 that came from the factory with a keymod handguard. While there are several differences between the Gen 1 & Gen 2, one quick way to id them is the Gen 2 comes from the factory with Ruger's hybrid muzzle brake.

That's quite true about the muzzle break and also if the piccatiny rail doesn't run the full length of the handguard,then it's a Gen2.
