Item has been relisted, you can find the new listing at: http://www.theoutdoorstrader.com/threads/fs-ruger-super-bearcat-revolver.960896/
Item Name: FS Ruger Super Bearcat revolver

Location: Stockbridge

Zip Code: 30273

Item is for: Sale Only
Sale Price: $400 obo

Caliber: .22lr

Willing to Ship: No

Bill of Sale Required?: No

Item Description: Its a blue steel with brass trigger guard circa 1971-72 early "second issue" Bearcat per the serial number. No caliber marking on barrel, no SR within logo, owner's manual printed as bearcat (super was added in later printings/shipments), it is in original form (ie no safety upgrade to transfer bar system), cylinder shows slight turning marks, small chip out of one grip base, no rust or pitting, it has been fired. Overall the weapon is in very good condition. Price is based on hands off appraisal from a Ruger owners society representative setting value as $450-500, using photos I took of the gun yesterday. This is another weapon I'm selling for a widow who wants it out of the house and could use the money. NOTE: sale is restricted to those having a current valid pistol permit or a background clearance no older than 30days.
There is no negotiation or discussion in that restriction.

A few years back I had a Super Bearcat in the factory box. The box was printed "SUPER BEARCAT" But it had a steel trigger guard, while researching it, I found that the Super BC had steel trigger guard and the regular BC had brass trigger guard.

I'm not saying yours is not a super, but what are you basing it on to be a super instead of a reg BC ?

thanks

What I found in my research was the opposite. A first issue bearcat had all blue finish. Second issue had new metallurgy and "brass" trigger guard. It also showed that during very first runs Ruger would label the box as super but pack it with a regular manual as they were hurried to get them out and didn't wait for new printing. I sent all my info to a rep from a Ruger owners' group along with many photos, he did not correct my assertion that its a super bearcat. I can only assume he knows better than I do.

I have owned a couple regular BC's from the 70's. I even had the box for one reg BC and it said Bearcat on the box. It had a brass trigger guard. The only Super BC I owned was unfired in the original box with ser # matching the gun, it was marked Super Bearcat and had a steel trigger guard.

So I know they made reg non-super BC's WITH the brass trigger guard.

Below is a Super Bearcat mfg in 1973. The one pictured below was made AFTER the one you are selling. So if the 1st issue had the steel guard and the 2nd had the brass, yours would have had to have been made AFTER the one below, instead of the other way around.

I believe the one you are selling is the more common Bearcat instead of the rare Super Bearcat.

I will add, your price is right on point for an old model Ruger Bearcat.
What I have posted is just FYI for possible buyers.
