Item Description: My loss could be your gain! I traded into this not to long ago. My plans were/are to have a 229 combo for me and the wife. Due to my negligence, this is a standard/older? model 229 and my other is a 229-1, which means all of my extended mags will not fit this 229 (they are too wide). I'd prefer to have models with interchangeable mags...

I should have checked the gun out more. However, I didnt give it a full break down inspection in the police station parking lot - lesson learned. There were other surprises (on top of the mag fit) that I did not realize until I got it home. So far my attempts to reconcile this with the trader have proved unsuccessful... So I'll try to accurately describe it so no one else gets surprised like I did...

**FULL DISCLOSURE**
Surprise #1: I believe these are e2 grips - they snap onto the frame = no grip screws. It appears the grip screw holes have been used, and being that this is not an e2 or later model I do not believe these are the factory grips for this model. The grips do not seat down 100%. There is a 1cm gap on the top right side. Apparently this affects the decocker. With the e2 grips, the decocker will not decock - you can push it down but it's like something prevents it from actually lowering the hammer (trigger drops hammer/shoots fine). When I put my crimson trace grips on it from my other 229 - the decocker functions fine. With no grips on it - the decocker functions fine. I guess these e2 grips just get in the way or put pressure on a spring or something, I'm not really sure. The guy I got it from said, "just pull the trigger an decocker at the same time" - DO NOT DO THIS.
All of that being said, if you plan to carry decocked, then you will most likely need some new grips for this gun. If you carry sa, then it really shouldn't bother you. The e2 grips do have a slimmer profile and the gun actually feels really nice in your hand.

Surprise #2: Box does NOT match the gun = they have different serial numbers - don't ask why, I dont know. Just be thankful I'm telling you instead of letting you figure it out like I got to lol. Unless you're a serious collector, shouldn't matter to much, I'm just trying to be transparent as possible.

Gun will come with box/doc/lock and 2 mags.
**I could include the crimson trace laser grips for the right trade**

Wide open on trades, can add or take cash accordingly

If I’m not mistaken, a different hammer strut and main spring shoe for use with the e2 grip should do the trick for decocking. $15 fix as opposed to $85-$100 for g10s.

excellent deal and hats off for the transparency.

I did some reading and came across some info that said the same. Thanks for sharing! Honestly, if the mags worked, I'd have bought some screws and put the ctg on there. But being that the mags wont work on both, I'd just assume pass it along to someone who can use it and has the time/willingness to fool with it lol.
Thanks again for sharing - hopefully this will motivate some on the fence buyers!!
