Just curious. If you are 60 how cold is too cold when looking to relocate and retire?

I have a few years left to work and do not want to stay here in Kingsland GA on the FL border. How cold is too cold and where?

Maine and West Virginia are out due to amount of snow.

MO is fairly laid back, can get cold, but the lower population density makes for strong consideration.

For WV I think it depends on the part you're in. My in-laws are in southern WV and have not gotten much snow in recent years.

For me it's not necessarily how cold it gets but how long it stays cold and even more important than that is the amount of daylight. I'm an outside guy and if I can't be outside the vast majority of the year I'm not a happy camper. The sweet spot for me is generally north of I-20 and south of I-40.

I’m not that age but having dealt with people that age and different climates so I have a few thoughts. As mobility declines, ice and slippery conditions becomes a big concern. For places that snow a lot, there is just too much work that goes into dealing with it. Short, short winter days up north don’t make the beautiful summers worth it either. On the flip side, there is a large portion of Florida retirees who will hardly leave the house except early in the morning for a good portion of the year because it’s too hot. Same with Arizona.

+1 for MO. Beautiful state and gun friendly. I'd say a good mixture of midwestern and southern living. I've been a few times for work at Callaway nuke plant. Visited Midway USA and Sierra Bullets. Also attended a Trump rally and participated in a parade around the capitol.

I thought I wanted to move, but after the last 3 years I'm not so sure. Florida was it for me, but not after the doubling of real estate, the hike in insurance and having to evacuate for hurricanes. My other choice was the mountains, but one road in, one road out no longer appeals to me, also it's crowded now with plenty of weekend traffic. I live on a 27 acre lake loaded with fish, I have a large house with a basement, a nice shop in the back, no flooding, big yard, anything I want is minutes from me, endless medical, shopping, airport, sporting events etc. I want all this but a smaller ranch style house. I figure I have about 4 years to figure something out. What I don't like is Dekalb county taxes and their water/sewer rates. Never had any crime in my hood, but it's definitely all around us.
