Just curious. If you are 60 how cold is too cold when looking to relocate and retire?

There's no place better than where I'm at for 8 months. Get a camper and travel when the weather gets to hot or to cold.

You can't escape the weather. Move to escape the heat and you get hurricanes, tornados, wild thunderstorms, or erupting volcanos. We didn't move to avoid weather, but moving from Maryland near DC (I don't recommend there) to the deep south, we immediately experienced drought, extreme heat, extreme rain, Snowmageddon, tornados, etc.

Maryland was nice, weather-wise, because seasons lasted longer and were more predictable.

You've heard of the halfbacks. They move from north to south, then halfway back because south is to hot and rough. But they end up in Ashville, NC with historic floods.

I don't think you can get there from here.

FWIW, I've lived in the DC area, now GA, born and lived in WV, been to KS, MO, NY, and PA. They're all great when they're great, and they suck when they suck.

I've learned to love the variety of weather we get here. It's not better or worse, just wild, sudden, and different. It adds a bit of spice to my life.

I've got pretty bad arthritis and the cold makes my bones hurt.
I used to love the weather here but as I've gotten older even here the winters are just too cold
When it time to de-ass the area I'll definitely be heading south and probably west. Texas or Arizona maybe.
My SIL wants me to come up to NY to stay but they live on Lake Ontario where they measure their snow in feet rather than inches so I had to politely decline that offer.
I have no intention of going north of Tennessee ever again anyway.
If I had the money I'd retire to some tropical island or the Costa Del Sol but I don't so I'll probably just live in a van down by the river.

Parts of Texas do suck. And it can get colder than some people seem to think. But overall a great state.
