Bet the dude squats to pee.
What makes you think he wasn't helping? He said what he said for maximum response from those around him, then you can hear him calmly telling someone to give him some room. Do you think it would have been better for him to casually take a poll to see who had a towel he could borrow while the guy was bleeding out?

Actually, I know exactly how I would have handled it as I have been in that situation before.
Him telling the guy to lie down and having everyone else back off was exactly what I did. I also asked if anyone had towels, but I didn't drop as many F-bombs. Ended up using my t-shirt and some gauze that I had in my truck's first aid kit while applying direct pressure until the ambo arrived.
My guy lost an eye and took 24 stitches in his hand and another 47 in his face.

In a situation like that, most people stand around and try to figure out what to do. The injured guy usually fares much better if someone takes charge and gives people a task. Probably could have left the F-bombs out, but better than a bunch of people looking on and videoing on their phone.
