Karl Childers gets a Colonoscopy

I have had 3, and due for another. My sister had exactly the puncture experience mentioned above, not good, damn near killed her, she is 87, this was about 8 years ago.
What isn't mentioned is that as you age, the intestinal walls weaken making a puncture more likely. I can't wait for #4.

When I went in for my first one the nurse asked me if I'd reviewed the possible adverse outcomes of a colonoscopy with the doctor. I said, "Like what?" She says, "Well, although it's highly unlikely the scope could pierce the wall of the colon and you may have to have an emergency resection. That would of course mean you'd wear a colostomy bag for about 6 months."

I said, "Hell no he didn't tell me anything like that! I could have used that information before I came in here today!"

This is EXACTLY what happened to my sister about 10 years ago. She almost died, and it aged her about 10 years in a year. She is now 89.

If you have to have one....I have had 4....GO TO A SPECIALIST, not some guy that does 2 a week as a hobby. I recommend Dr. Talapanini at Atlanta Gastro Associates in Lawrenceville. My favorite anal inspector. She does 8 or 10 a day, 5 days a week.
