I traded for a NIB G19 S2K and knew right away that the grips were too short for my large hands, and that the factory plastic trigger sucked. With the G17 version in short supply, and before firing a single round, I decided to swap out the grips and perform a few upgrades while I had it reduced to parts & pieces.

Items used to rebuild the Gen II:

K-T Heavy Weight Bolt
MCARBO Trigger & Hammer springs
K-T G17 Grip set
Performance Services fold away rear sight & aluminum trigger.

The entire transformation process took about an hour.
This video was extremely helpful during the process.

I ran two happy sticks & one 17 round mag through it the same day I rebuilt it.
It ran flawlessly with 115gr. Winchester White box, and 124gr American Eagle.
The only negative was the edge of the butt stock was biting my skin through my T-shirt.
The gun itself has very little felt recoil.

I ordered a recoil pad from ATI, and began working on a way to mount a red dot that didn't interfere with folding the stock... I came up with a tall, fixed position mount for a Micro T1 using a KAC mount #25789, an Aimpoint 39mm high spacer, and a 5-rail MOE accessory rail that I mounted to the side of the factory forend with a metal spacer in between.

I visited my local 25 yard indoor range Last Thursday morning to zero in the Aimpoint. It took several rounds to get the dot adjusted - POI was low left & off paper at the start. I fired a total of 100 rounds of 115 gr. Winchester 'white box', and my S2K performed flawlessly. The center target was @ 20 yards, the facial target was @ 25 yards. All shooting was done from an offhand standing position, so my adjustments weren't exactly U-D & L-R ... I'll need a bench & rest to fine tune the zero. The recoil pad worked like a charm, and I like the added LOP.

I have a .45 caliber pistol suppressor on order for my Glock pistols, and I plan to also run it on this S2K

Bottom line for me: This Gen II G17 SUB-2000 is fun, accurate, cheap to shoot, and reliable.
It's not going to replace my ARs or M14s, but it's definitely a keeper.

After some additional time operating this gun, I decided a more traditional optic mounting solution was needed.
I removed the off-set RDS, and replaced it with a Surefire weapon light. I mounted an EOTech on the hand guard
as far forward as possible. The factory 7mm throw lever riser gives me the proper elevation, and sight picture.

My S2K will not fold completely in half, but it folds enough for my needs.

Great review!

I'm a big fan of the pistol caliber carbines and will add one of these one day when I can find it at a reasonable price.

Would make a great back pack gun.

Kel-Tec has been paying attention to customer feedback... among other things, they now have an
aluminum competition trigger with travel stop. Factory installation ONLY.

Amazing what mags the Sub 2000 and a G17 you can fit in the small case . Best combo ever unless it's in 9mm as well
