Why not put the pistol on top of the refrigerator, Chester-drawers, closet shelf or the like. I never had trouble keeping a weapon from a two year old.

Does he really need to keep one in the chamber? It's more accessible than his car and his daughter isn't going to work the slide - I'd rather just pull back the slide than have to unlock a gun.
