Leave it or clean it (and choot it)?

I bought a very nice Krag today and I didn't open the magazine until I got it home. The metal parts of the rifle are covered in very old, dried oil (cleans easily with Hoppes #9) and noticed when I opened the magazine, it is full of ancient cosmic grease (I think that's what I've seen it called in late Nineteenth Century manuals).

I really want to choot this but what do the cosmoline huffers here have to say?

Choot it. You will get the authentic smell. Clean it later.

Mmmmm. That will clean up nicely later. Thats how my friends Enfield looked before we shot it and I cleaned it.

If you want a real nasty surprise disassemble the bolt and clean the firing pin.

I cleaned one that had gunk in it form Cuba or the Philippines.

This is very exciting. Look at the fire bluing on the sear!

I noticed other parts with fire bluing showing after a lite soak with Hoppes and a wipe. Rear sight is very promising!

Go on and get you a Monte Carlo stock, a ****ty scope and a fresh coat of duracoat and you're golden.
