Lee Enfield Stock

Well.... I finally found time this weekend to work on the Enfield.

My dad had a nice piece of walnut laying around that he donated to the cause. First, we made a jig to keep the stock square on the table saw. We ripped a recessed centerline down the jig and then screwed the stock down to it. We then began the slow process of cutting what was left of the old draws out. Once we were happy with that, we began shaping the replacement piece of walnut being careful to match the receiver and draw angles. It took a lot of time, patience and sanding but I feel like we did a pretty good job.

Now all that's left is the titebond 3 and brass screw. Once the glue is dry, I will mount it back on the jig and cut out the center where the receiver sits. Batta boom batta bing!

I finally glued it in with Titebond 2 and cut out the center for the trigger to fit. I drilled a pilot hole and threaded the brass screw. After mounting everything, the action fits tighter than a teenage nun. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I feel like this definitely did the trick. Anybody got some 303 to donate??

Just got back from the range. I put 20 rounds of 303 through it without a hiccup. Looks like the patch held! Man... Those 303 rounds sure do pack a punch too. No wonder that coachwood split in the first place. Hopefully this fix will hold for another 75 years.
