LGS that has lost my busniess forever

also have to take into account future cost. i know of a few certain shops that have been worse than others about pricing and then i know others that have been very reasonable still. the ones that have stayed reasonable i still go to and will in the future, and have tended to be packed. The others i've stopped going to mostly, and when i have stopped by there seems to only be a few regulars anymore and the same guns sit.

At one time i did operate a small business (granted of a COMPLETELY different nature), and another rule of business was it was always better to keep old customers than to need new ones.

As the primary (i.e. only) shipping and receiving person for lgs, I can confirm gun prices from distributors have pretty much stayed the same in most cases, but even the ones that have gone up, have not gone up by a significant amount. Yet our store is raising prices on everything higher and higher just because they can use the excuse of limited availability. Most of our customers are dumb enough or desperate enough to keep buying anyway.

Ammo is a different story all together. We are struggling to get ammo from anywhere its available and sometimes its pretty expensive for us just to get it.

Our store has done extremely well financially since March, so the excuse of they are struggling to stay afloat is invalid. Especially with 90% of the employees only making $10/hr.

If our store is losing money at all, its because they are spending thousands on crap that will take us to sell. I.e. 500+ Promag AR mags, guns most people have never heard of (Tara Tactical?), or dozens of cheap turkish guns most people dont want.

I won't be employed there much longer and will never darken their door again after I pick up my last paycheck.

They sell guns. And they are 15 mins away - that qualifies for me!
But I buy more from Cherokee gun and Big Woods Goods than I ever have at Academy. Wish the LGS in Jasper didn't get kinda price crazy on stuff (in general and not talking about the current covid shortage)
I hear that! Kinda is being kind lol

You buy a lot of clothes at your LGS?
"Guns aren't required to function they are just a supplemental income" (It is a GUN SHOP - it's usually in the name somewhere.)

I have one LGS that I don't go to because they feel the need to carry $3000 ARs to keep the lights on.
The Gun + Pawn shops here sell other peoples stuff they brought for 20% of the real value.
The other Sporting Stores carry guns as well as Boats, fishing supplies, Hunting Clothes, Safes, ect..
During times of drought I find it odd that any store can rely totally on gun sales unless they contract with the police or offer other services like Cerakoting. Considering what I've been "told" the mark up in guns is not that high. If you have inside information I am willing to be educated.

Academy is not a LGS, they could sell out tomorrow and not sell another gun or bullet for till 2021 and would be fine.

Well in fairness academy prices are overpriced all the time so not raising them really isn’t a big deal. :boink:

<————-has never bought a gun at academy.

Academy's prices have indeed gone up this year, I purchased a couple of boxes of 200rd Winchester green tip 5.56 in December for $94.99 each, today those same boxes are going for $109.99. Think about it, that's an extra $15 in their pockets per box.

You know what they paid for it from the distributor?

One of their guys said they are on a new contract with higher prices, that can either be true, or not. Either way the reason they (academy, distributor, and manufacturer) can increase prices that much is because they have a seller's market. They can sell those boxes for $200 and people will still wait in line and freeze their asses to buy it. Until the panic buying stops, those prices will continue to rise.
