LOL. WTF? A CD? Really?

Found a manual online, seems pretty straightforward for what I want to do.

The real question and what I cannot glean from a wiring diagram for the 2006 E-250 is this.....

Although it's not connected or used apparently, what the heck is this harness in the right rear tail light assembly used for?

Trailer lights?

trailer wiring harness or maybe for a security system?
edit: do you know if your van had a tow package?
edit 2: just for fun, I asked chatgpt and here is what it said: (but don't say it out loud because "aI iS bAD")

Thanks for the photo — that helps a lot.

From what I see in the image:

  • The tail light has the standard bulb socket wiring (black, orange/black, etc.).
  • There's an extra gray connector with red, pink, and yellow wires hanging loose inside the body cavity.

Most likely purpose of that extra cable:

That gray connector is not part of the factory tail light wiring. It looks like it was part of a trailer wiring harness or auxiliary lighting setup, especially since it's bundled and terminated cleanly with a connector — typical of Ford’s OEM or dealer-installed trailer wiring.

Possibilities:

  1. OEM Trailer Wiring: This might be a plug for a factory or dealer-installed trailer harness. It could have gone to a 4-pin or 7-pin trailer connector that’s been removed.
  2. Fleet/Commercial Add-on: If the van was used commercially, this could have powered:
    • Rear strobes
    • Backup alarm
    • Liftgate lights

What you can do:

  • Check under the rear bumper: Look for cut wires, trailer connectors, or signs of a removed harness.
  • Test with a multimeter or test light:
    • Probe each pin in the gray connector.
    • Activate signals (brake, turn, reverse) and see if any pin gives 12V.
    • That will help ID what it’s for.

Would you like a pinout diagram to help trace what those wires might do?
