Oh, you bring back memories of fishing a black water, lilly padded, cypress kneed SE Ga mill pond. First, throw out a handful of uncooked Quaker oats to chum the shiners. Now that looks like Gunter. The fish is probably 11 12sh. Full of roe. Not quite the trout fed beast the other was. There are fish of that caliber here in Ga. The old golden shiner filled black water swamps of the Se part of the state. My absolute favorite place to fish. Jurassic
And the company of very good fishing buddies. Damn, I could sold that to Outdoor Life!Oh, you bring back memories of fishing a black water, lilly padded, cypress kneed SE Ga mill pond. First, throw out a handful of uncooked Quaker oats to chum the shiners.
Bait a tiny hook with a bb sized ball of raw biscuit dough. Catch a few 7 to 9 inch golden shiners. Hook said shiner just behind the dorsal fin with a 5/0 weedless. Put 4" weighted bobber 3' above bait. With a stout bait casting rig throw over a log, next to a cypress stump or in the lilly pads. Wait. Wait more. Try a Devil's Horse or Johnson Silver Minnow with pork rind eel. Hear the bobber pop, see the line peel off the reel. Rear back on it. Wrastle that hawg over the log, through the pads and past the gators. That's how I put two ten pounders on the wall, and more importantly enjoyed the beauty of a Georgia mill pond through the seasons.
