Looking for a new AR Trigger - need help

The only triggers I have upgraded to are ALG for regular use and a Geissele SSA in my one precision AR. The SSA is a two stage that breaks at 2.5 and then 2 so I'm not sure if that's as light as you want but you can find them under $200 if you catch them on sale.

ALG all the way. They are made by the same company that does Geissele triggers. I think it's the wife who runs ALG IIRC.

That is correct, the wife runs that side of the business.
I only own one Geissele because I only own one dedicated long range AR (not that I'm really shooting 'long' range, it's more of an SPR) and anything over the ALG ACT would be overkill in my other carbines.

I like RRA 2-stage national match triggers. They are about $80. I like 2 stage triggers for precision shooting.

Are you going to one at the CMP range? That's the only KD I know of that might have 600 in the standard COF.

You don't need optics, I've shot 46/50 twice with irons at CMP, and could've easily got 50 with a bit more care.

A 1-4x or 1-6x scope is more than enough power for a KD. The smaller scopes are also more forgiving when it comes to eye relief, which is a big plus on the two rapid fire stages.

The last KD I went to I used my DPMS carbine with the stock trigger that I polished myself and did fine. I qualified actual distance with it using an Aimpoint red dot. While aids to help marksmanship are fine, it is better to focus on the fundamentals; don't over think it.

Unless your existing trigger is really terrible you should be fine with what you've got. I would definitely stay away from target triggers with very light pulls unless this is just going to be a range rifle. I think you should avoid these triggers in a "go to" rifle.

Remember this is supposed to be fighting rifle, not a bench rest rifle.

I plan on going to the KD as well, I'll see you there!

Well said sir!

Depends on what you're looking for in a trigger. If you want a drop in with a short crisp pull, the Timney single stage is great. I had one in my 6920 but ended up ditching it for the Geissele SD3G which I do not regret. Different kind of pull and reset.. Super fast.

I love my flat CMC 3.5lb single stage.

Also check out Velocity triggers. They feel great and have probably the lowest cost for a drop-in at about $130. The company was apparently started by a guy that worked at Timney, then went and designed KAC triggers before going out on his own.

I have the following triggers in my ARs

Timney drop-in (single stage)
CMC flat bow (single stage)
JP Enterprise (single stage)
Geiselle SSA-e (two stage)
Hiperfire Hipertouch 24E (single stage)

The two lowers that I go to the most are the ones with the Timney and Hiperfire triggers. I have nothing against the Geiselle and I think it is a great trigger, I just can't use two stage triggers for precision work. Just something about a trigger having built-in "creep" that doesn't sit well with me. For rapid fire work, the Geiselle is the bee's knees though.

Single stage is gonna function like your milspec, just waay better. I have a geissele super 3 gun on my 516 at the moment and it is awesome. If your gonna be doing 600yd precision work get a 2 stage. Gessele SSA, SSA-E, or Nat Match would be excelent choices. May wanna check out the cheaper geissele two stage (yes that is the product name)
