Looking for SBR

I think the reason everyone is trying to push you to build your own is...... You CAN'T take possession of the firearm
if it is built as a SBR until you have the stamp in hand.
In other words, if you purchase it from Bravo Company, they will ship it to XYZ gun dealer that has the proper license.
Then you will purchase this firearm. NO you don't get to take it home with you. It sits in there safe for about 6 months until you get you stamp from the ATF. NOW you get to find out if there are any problems with the new firearm and if there are you just opened a whole nother can of worms. If Bravo then decides it must replace the lower under warranty, YOU are screwed. Start all over.
The old lower stamp is now garbage.
You want to have your lower in possession and know it works flawlessly before buying a 200.00 stamp that is good for that lower with that serial number. Plus you get to build the SBR the way you want by putting a pistol buffer on it while you wait for the stamp

But how do you get a new lower in your possession if it's shipped to an FFL? I thought they had to hold it until the paperwork comes thru.

No because a lower is just like a regular firearm/AR. Its not until you register the lower as a SBR with the ATF which means filing your Form 1, paying your $200 tax, and waiting for approval then it becomes an SBR. Until that time you can put a 16" upper on it and use it as a regular AR rifle.

Granted that was mostly due to getting good deals but its going to be cheaper to do it yourself and you control which parts you putting in, not having to worry about switching stuff around later and having a box of spare parts... which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I will more than like then just get my lower put together first and put the upper from my other AR on it and give it a test drive. Thanks.

Thats what I would do. If you dont want to go through the process of building your own lower out you can order a complete lower and Form 1 that. You can still use it with your rifle length upper until you get the stamp..

Alternatively you can order an AR pistol and Form 1 the lower from it and use it as a pistol or with a brace until the stamp comes in and then switch the back end from pistol to a stock.

As long as he has his stamp submitted and nothing is assembled or he doesn't put a stock on his lower I doubt the ATF is going to come knocking. I know of only one case where someone was prosecuted for that and the ATF were looking at him already for other violations.

While technically that's true there is a large grey area there. While I would have a stripped lower, sbr upper and a stock just sitting a box together you can have the lower with a pistol buffer system and sbr upper sitting next to a complete rifle length AR. Technically you have the parts there to make an illegal SBR.
