Thanks, do they make one that uses a gas system that is not direct impingement? As I have been told that is part of why ar fail at a higher rate. As I am looking for a gun that can get dirty, etc and keep firing like a standard Ak.

That's a commonly repeated misconception.

However, if you want an AK, get an AK, and not a bastard child of an AR and an AK.

Other good options that aren't an AR or an AK, but that use AK mags and ammo, are the SIG 556xi Russian, Galil Ace, CZ VZ-58, etc.

Will they hold zero? As I could have remembered it wrong but a long time ago there was a discussion about railed dust covers and them not holding zero well. I might just have to find an Ak possibly American made that has a bayonet and a side mount. Then sell my spiker ak’s as they are for my kids when they get older. So, it isn’t about collectability, but about function as I see a bloody future 20-30 years from now if not before. Which is why I have body armor, etc. which I still have some extra unissued fast and psgat helmets. As I sold all the extra lvl4 plates I had ironically to police officers from small towns that wouldn’t pay for hard armor for their swat units which is crazy.

From what I’ve gathered you want something similar to what the FSB uses correct? If so I suggest building off a Russian rifle, but if your wanting one with everything already on it from the factory then I have no idea.

Primary Weapons System
Long stroke piston, Ak style gas system in an AR rifle, US made.
I have an SBR in 300 BLK from them.
Many rounds run through it, lots of abuse with very little cleaning. Never have had any issues/problems.
Their website may show out of stock, I called them and they built mine and sent it out to me. Took them about 25 days from ordering to shipping.
