I've recently noticed that the guide rod is sticking out a little bit on my S&W Shield. Functionality wise there is no issue with this pistol cycling. It's mainly because I am a bit OCD and worry whether this can potentially lead to recoil spring assembly failure.
I've done some research online and while finding a lot of issues on shield guide rod, none of them match what I saw on mine and most of them are more serious than mine. I did made sure the guide rod is seated correctly against the barrel.
If you refer to the pictures I uploaded. When the slide is locked back, the front disk protrude out the guide rod a little. This front disk can be pushed and turned back onto guide rod as shown in second pic. Then racking the slide will cause it to stick back out.
When the disk sticks out, guide rod stick out the frame when fully in battery. As oppose to seat properly in frame when disk is pushed in.
Anyone experienced with this please show me some light. I am thinking about getting an aftermarket stainless steel guide rod because my ocd is killing me!
