There is a rare variation of the M44 that has a 24" barrel AND a side folding bayonet.
I need this in my life...

it looks like a test rifle to me, They probably experimented the the traditional 24 inch mauser length before adopting the shorter 20 inch length as standard for cost purposes. The extra 1/2 pound of wood and steel could make quite a few more m44 rifles over time

Lol, I know. I think we'd notice since the M44 is unusually shorter than other Mosins. The length, the beautiful wood, and side mounted bayonet all make these special Mosins. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a long one in the collection!!
