Marine boot camp graduation gift - ideas needed please

Graduation is 9/2 at Parris Island & I'm lost for gift ideas. He comes home for 10 days after graduation - then to Camp Lejeune and CA after that.

He wants a nice 1911 (he's 18 yrs old) but he can't take it with him so it would just sit in the safe at home. I thought about an engraved Ka-Bar but I don't think he can take it either but it would be nice and less expensive.

What's something that he can really use and/or appreciate while living on base? A nice folding knife? Watch?
He loves to hunt, fish, shoot, hike, camp - anything outside.

Any ideas will be appreciated - I'd like to keep it <$500 if possible.

Get, him something for his new Dorm room, have you seen a Marine barracks, it's WW 2, vintage. TV, stereo. When, I would visit my brothers in there Marine barracks. I felt bad for them those rooms where bare-ass.
