Market Outlook: M1 Garand Collectibility Over the Next Decade

I’m 44 and I don’t know anyone my age who cares about collecting mil surp guns. If there were a lot cheaper then maybe. Like cowboy guns there will always be a market, but demand will drop in favor of more modern guns that people want to use not collect. For example most of my friends have a few rifles and a few handguns that they shoot and don’t want more. Especially considering how expensive it is just to live right now.

One thing for sure, they're not making any more of them and with few exceptions what is in circulation now is it. < mil of the six produced.

ETA - I'm full of $hit, it appears CMP "Partnering with Alabama-based Heritage Arms USA, which will provide the forged – yes, forged – receivers,..." and will begin producing new m1s. It will be interesting to see what sales do. I foresee them shunned by collectors and unless they modify their current rules to allow their new rifles you cannot compete with them in vintage matches either so it will really test the M1's market. If you compare to an M1a retail they're going to have to run $2.5k-ish, I'm pretty sure I don't need one. Previously produced cast receiver M1s from CAI only bring 6-800 at best. Like a Universal or an Iver Johnson, Dark Star, etc... M1c, not really collectable, one of the first things for sale in any gun safe. You got to really love it as the ammo is so expensive.

Rinky dink gun show at the Union Hall in Marietta . Could find them for $3,000 ! 🤣😂
Yeah , I was that BORED yesterday , figuired I go to lunch at the Red Eyed Mule , and ended up there. Waste of $15 !
The Red Eye Mule is never a waste of time

I do think the new M1s will help keep surplus rifle prices in check a bit, as these new M1s enter the market and eventually end up as used rifles.

As was said, the current collectors will pass their rifles on to others who want them. So there will be a market for them, but prices may not rise much.

Similar to the brass era car market in my opinion. The older guys that grew up with them are mostly gone or too old to buy, but there are still enough new fans to keep them valuable. There aren't many left out there anyway.

No idea what the used prices of the CMP made Garands will be, but I'd expect the surplus M1 rifles will always retain more value over the long term. They do for me.

Looks like - $1940 shipped.

I'd hate to see the rifle to go away. It's a great weapon. If there's money to be made, they'll do it. If they do make new ones, I hope they'll be able to shoot modern ammo

They have indicated they will make them in .308, lots of available aftermarket barrel makers already. I think cmp already offers a Criterion equipped Expert model. The rifle is so much more pleasant to shoot when its 41 grains of powder and not 48. I shoot the M1 and M1a in matches a couple times a year, my match prepped .308 Winnie M1 is my favorite.

I'm a big fan of 308. I've only owned two 06s in my life. One I didn't like the other I never shot. I only have two issues with the Garand. The safety makes too much noise clicking on and off, LOL. And the fact you can't shoot modern ammo in it. I love the balance and how it handles

What do you mean modern ammo? If I may be forgiven for saying, the safety is only used to let the trigger assy release from the action.
