Seems like Ruger it trying out some new stuff with Marlin. A 10mm lever gun?

might be kinda cool. I know you can load the 10mm up pretty hot for a pistol round, wonder how the new Hornady ammo will do?

"Optimized for lever-action rifles, the LEVERevolution 10mm Auto ammunition features a 150 grain FTX bullet that delivers great accuracy, making it a great option for any hunter. While engineered for lever-actions, the round is a great choice for revolvers and semi-auto platforms as well."

I researched the 10mm and looked at the ballistics after reading all the hype. The comparison to a 357 was nearly identical

This data pair is for handguns. Even with all the hype I couldn’t see adding an additional handgun in the new caliber to my collection.

The 357 in a rifle is ok. The plus would be able to share the same ammo with your pistol. I can’t imagine that 10mm in a rifle is any better.

I guess if you love your 10mm handgun, the ability to share that ammo with your new lever action long gun could be a big plus.

A 9mm pistol round through a 16 inch barrel will give another 200 feet per second vs a pistol. The 357 through the same barrel will give another 500 fps over a handgun. 10mm? I don’t know.

10mm cartridges have been loaded to anemic .40cal ballistics for ages.

If loaded to their full potential (supposedly close to .41mag) then I see a market.

But why not just go with .44mag?

I applaud Ruger's venturing into new markets. And the barrel is threaded, so there's that.

Both .357 and .44 are rimmed - makes me wonder how they will handle the rimless 10mm.

The “new” backup gun for big bear country nowadays seems to be the 10mm over the .41 or .44 Magnum. Not quite the power of the revolver rounds, but more than twice the capacity when the gun is a G20. This levergun will make a companion piece.

I still carry a Ruger Blackhawk .44 Magnum as backup in Montana, but the guys I hunt with all use 10mm.

I think one of the reason a lot of people (myself included) like 10mm is that while it is a bit weaker than a good revolver round, the manual of arms is the same as my EDC piece. I carry a polymer doublestack almost all day outside the house, I wouldn't want to draw a gun in an animal emergency and have a single action I forget to cock or a double action I don't shoot well with a heavy trigger.

I'll be curious to see how the new 9mm and 10mm lever guns work out, being rimless. 10mm hot stuff won't suppress well but I also hope these guns take 40 subs like the 357/38 lever guns do. EDIT: read the website and it says no 40. Weird.

I think the main issue why 10mm pistols/rifles don't shoot 40 is that they don't have a rim so they headspace on the mouth of the brass. so you can't usually shoot 40S&W from 10mm chambers unlike the 38/357 that has a rim it uses.

I love my 1911 Long slide in 10 mily. One of the employees at Georgia firing line wanted to shoot mine so I obliged him. I was standing behind him when he was shooting those full power loads and I could see the muscles in his shoulders and arms flexing from the recoil. I think it's a beast of a automatic handgun round.
