Rifle looks really good. I had one, long time ago... Let it go for some stupid stuff here on ODT.

No I worked in the area years ago and stop in from time to time.

I've got a 44 remlin and I'd say the fit, wood and overall quality seems to be as good or better than Marlin. Maybe I just lucked up.

The JM stamped ones do and the Ruger built ones look nice! But I would not buy a Freedom group

No derail intended, but you guys seem to know what's what on these. Can anyone tell me anything about the market on a Western Field-branded 30/30 , JM stamped 336 (minty nice, low miles, gorgeous hardwood stocks that look to be walnut) ? I cant recall, but I'm pretty sure its early 70s. Thanks...

Generally speaking they run a little cheaper than the JM Marlins but not more than $100 difference between the two from what I’ve seen on here over the years.

I’ve seen some bad quality one fit and finish from Remington.

Yeah crazy how they shot up. I have one that my dad gave me as my first rifle and still got it. He bought it from Wal-Mart back in the day

Bought a 1958 Golden Mountie yesterday, picture is it beside a newer 44 mag Remlin. Quality of both is good. Older Marlin was built the year I was born, it seems to have aged better. Not bad for a 67 year old firearm.
