I have a Marlin model 80. The gun shoots fine. Bullets load and eject fine. Wood stock is an overall excellent condition with very few scrapes or bumps. It has a Simmons Blazer 4x32 scope mounted to it.
I picked this gun up a few months ago and ended up getting a S&W MP15-22 shortly thereafter. Thus this rifle has sat in the safe unused. A few weeks ago I sold it to another forum member. I was recently contacted by that member to inform me of some difficulties and problems he had since discovered with the firearm. We met and I refunded his money.
Today I had my local gunsmith look over the rifle and offer me his opinion. He describes this rifle as “heavily modified” and I don’t think he meant it in a very good way. The barrel has been cut down. The crown appears ok but he could not verify this 100%. The magazine sometimes becomes stuck and is a little difficult to remove. No suggestion was offered. The receiver appears to have been tapped between 11 and 13 times. While the scope appears to be straight upon closer examination you can see it actually sits to the left. Because of the poor job of the tapping there is nowhere else to tap. Thus the scope is more for show and serves no actual purpose. He told me that in order to fill the holes and retry, weld a new piece of metal over, or to remove and add front and rear iron sites would cost me close to what a new cheap 22 rifle would cost. Good news is the scope appears to be in fine shape.
I don’t feel right passing on the problems to someone else or trying to trade it in without fully discoling the problems. The karma will just come back and bite me in the ass later. Cosmetically the rifle is great; mechanically it has some issues and needs some love and attention. I have $125 in this rifle. I understand I will not get this out of it.
I would love to get $65-$75 out of this if possible. Maybe a 7.62x39 drum or some magazines. I’ll take 9mm, 38, or 357 ammo. I’d also love a cozy coupe toddler car for my daughter. Trade value towards another cheaper 22 rifle or pistol. I'm pretty open.I’m not one of those people who can just leave it in the safe.
It doesn’t matter who I got it from or where they got it from. This isn’t a “witch-hunt”. I talked to the person I got it from and they’ve been awesome. I don’t think for a second anyone knew of this guns problems and tried to trick anyone. I’ve met some awesome people on here, gotten some great deals, and won some contests so I don’t have a problem holding the bag on this one.
I have a bunch of pictures located at the below link. I will do my best to answer any questions you have or provide additional pictures. Post here or PM me.

I count 2 holes in front of the chamber, 8 holes behind the chamber, and 2 on the left(non-bolt) side.
