I have a hard time understanding the position that some people here like to take when it comes to being a Gun-Snob. I constantly see people trashing Hi Point, Sigma, & Taurus ( & a few others). Often without ever having spent any real range time with said brand, just regurgitating the same crap we've all heard before. But let's be honest, we've all seen the
pics of the exploding Glock floating around the 'net, & we've heard as much about Kimber, HK, Walther, & Colt.

Bottom line; every gun enthusiast can't afford to pony up $600+ while still paying bills mortgage rent, etc. Also, it really shouldn't matter if the gun goes bang everytime you tell it to. I personally have owned lower tier inexpensive guns & pricey pieces. In the end the only advantage to the pricey guns was the resale/trade value.

I'd welcome any additional input...

My sigma was garbage, awful trigger, was not reliable, not enough aftermarket support. Hi points are super cheap and go bang when needed but I still won't trust my life to one. I have had 3 Taurus firearms and all were un reliable.

No my glocks have never had a problem, my m&p never had a problem. XD had a couple hiccups but otherwise a good gun. it's not about being a snob it's about buying something with known quality and proven track record.

Find me a person who is trained to and uses a firearm for work (I.e. LE, military, etc) who carries a hi point or sigma

With me, it has nothing to do with being able to afford this or that. Truth is, I can afford any firearm I really want. I just don't have anything to prove. I have what I want, and there's not a "IMPRESS SOMEONE" model amongst them. Buy, shoot, and enjoy what you want!

Who cares what someone else thinks I, or you should be shooting?

My opinion this forum needs reviews not bashers,if you don't like the firearm and never owned, tested or held in hand keep negitivity to yourself.my.02.ps we all like to have fun,kid around but keep it in the right area of forum not on the adds.

Some folks are just snobbish and it doesn't matter if they are talking bourbon, guns, bikes, cars, or trucks. They are first and foremost a snob. It seems those folks have to belittle someone else's property in order to make them feel superior or to simply justify the huge expenditure they paid. That to me is just bad manners and impolite. A little bit of tact goes a long way. If a person truly feels a manufacturer’s product is inferior then state your case just do not insult someone’s purchase choice due to their financial/budget limitations.

With CAD/CAM we benefit from a high level of manufacturing excellence at a value that was unavailable 30 years ago. It amazes me what my purchasing dollar gets me nowadays. A single parent working a blue collar job has precious available cash flow but still understands the need of an effective personal defensive strategy. They often have trouble trying to find a spare $20 let alone drop $400-$600 for a defensive firearm. I can appreciate the machining/finishing work that went into a $1000 plus weapon, does that really justify the cost. There is a point of diminishing returns.

A functional reliable firearm can be had for less than $200. What's important is it works and they know how to properly employ it when needed not the name stamped on the gun.

I have a few expensive firearms but as I type this a Keltec with a clip draw rest in my waistband as it frequently finds itself. I (CCW) carry a $350-$400 pistol that I bet my life on due to value and "functional" quality.

I get tired of the Taurus bashing too. Guys who are just regurgitating BS without firsthand knowledge are irritating.

I've shot several Taurus and owned a few and never had one problem- every one of them shot and functioned well and they all went bang when the trigger was squeezed and where I aimed it-and that includes revolvers and semi autos.

I don't seem to hear as much of it on here as used to, but this is still very much a Glock and AK site.

Isn't the overall point that it goes bang when you tell it to? More importantly.. you want it to go bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang*click*. I think some of the $2500 pistols are ridiculous and superfluous.. but a hi-point is not a quality piece of equipment. A kel-tec, a Stoeger, a Ruger, a Taurus.. those are all affordable and built to where they are reliable and functional. I choose to drop a little more coin on my stuff, but then again I've got the funds to do so and see it as an investment. You can always turn a Glock into $100 bills. You can do the same with a Seecamp, a SiG, an HK.. You can always turn a Hi-Point into a paperweight.

Kind of like those Yugo cars in the 80's. Yeah it might get you there- but it might not, and will damn sure be ugly in its pursuit.

"Also, it really shouldn't matter if the gun goes bang everytime you tell it to."

Please tell me you did not mean that the way it sounded?

The reliability of the gun is more important than its pedigree.

For casual recreation an unreliable gun is only frustrating.... for use as a self defense weapon, it MUST work EVERYTIME because you could DIE if it doesn't.

You cannot be serious?
I have to believe you were talking about guns for recreational use?

Would you live with a car whose brakes only worked most of the time?
