Memorable Quotes from Dad

My dad's variation to this was: (mowing the grass) If you are going to take the time to do something, at least act like you give a **** about what you are doing and don't let it look like your're totally retarded. (I did have a tendency to run over some of mom's flowers at times).

On a side note, my dad and I used to get into on occasion when I told him I push-mowed all 6 acres of our yard; he'd smirk and say "you're allergic to that much work", but I was quick on one occasion and replied "Kinda like you've been allergic to fixing the riding mower for the past 2 months?" ...... yeah, that didn't go over well, but he never questioned me again how the yard was mowed.

For about the last four or five years of his Career--And the FIRST four or five of mine--Dad & I both worked for the same Federal "Alphabet Agency"--As I was on the "Front Lines" & he was in Management, there came a time during one of the periodic "Budget Crises" that HE was gonna' get FURLOUGHED without Pay, while I was gonna' get to keep on working--AND keep getting Paid--This due to my Status as an "Essential" employee--Pointing THAT out at Sunday Dinner went over like a FART IN CHURCH, LOL!... :) ....mikey357

My dad was at sea most of the time, and I was pretty much raised by my maternal grandfather. Like a few have mentioned, I learned a lot more from what he did and how he treated people as they deserved than anything he said. That was the way a man communicated what it was to be a man to a boy until this age of bull**** talk and "feelings".

I remember when I was seventeen, I had just introduced him to my newest girlfriend. He said,"You know, buddyro, I always see you with beautiful women. You ought to try a plain woman sometime. They will wear you out with their enthusiasm." Then he winked.

He was right.

Remembered one today while watching my Dad work on some electrical stuff at my house this morning with my son looking over his shoulder.

"You see what I did there boy? You know why I did that?" Followed by some teaching. Pretty cool to watch.

To those of you posting about how you miss your fathers, my condolences first and my thanks second. My Dad is 70 and y'all are reminding me make the most of these times. I used to think it was strange that Dad would have Granddad come fix stuff I new he could fix himself. Now I am about to start breaking stuff just so we can fix it.

I told my dad that something wasn't fair one time and he replied with. Sh** ain't fair deal with it. I will always remember that. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.
