i traded into a mosin m44 quite awhile back and just got the really looking at it and noticed something odd

-it came in a cardboard box labeled " hunting carbine"( apparently it helped with importation)
- it had "made in russia" marked into the receiver metal

anyone ever see that mark and does it possibly date the guns importation time

I haven't seen one like that before. Probably a early import. Any other import marking? Does it have the bayonet? Could have been imported into a ban state or something odd like that.

The mark under MADE IN RUSSIA (middle one) signifies it was exported directly by Russia. Check the barrel for an importer's mark, near the crown. Might be hard to see as sometimes they wear off due to wear.

I tend to agree that it was an early export. The recent MADE IN RUSSIA markings I've seen have been laser etched or dot matrix.

model and caliber are marked on rear sight
it was imported by pw arms richmond wa

It's Redmond, WA. They've been around for at least 20 years.

Marks on barrel near bore would be an older import, newer imports would be on the receiver itself. You might want to send some pictures in to 7.62x54r.net. They'll do a much better job of giving you the info you want ... and then some.

I can't recall ever seeing one with these exact etchings. If I had to guess, this was one of the first batches that came after the dissolution and the formation of the Russian state. You do see that font with MADE IN USSR but it would have been done post December 25, 1991 for it to say RUSSIA instead.

"May I contribute pictures to 7.62x54r.net? No, submittals are closed." it looks like I'm out of luck with them, and their is nothing written on the barrel
