So I'm new to all of this - both buying guns and shooting altogether.

I am definitely looking for one of the following: Mosin Nagant 91/30, M44, Type 53. I'm obviously looking at something inexpensive to learn and have fun with. I'd like to spend no more than $125 on a decent weapon.

I'm also in the market for a .22 rifle, semi auto- bolt if necessary... On a budget too unfortunately.

Now, let me offer the disclaimer that none of these weapons have to be pretty. None of them have to have amazing or even impressive action. I am willing to get my hands dirty and work with the weapons. All i ask is that they fire relatively straight and are safe enough to use.

I'm a beginner but I'm not lazy nor am I here because of some political reaction. I want to learn to shoot for protection, for a hobby, and for the lifestyle... I just need some pointers and advice.

First of all, whats a good inexpensive 22?

you can prolly find a 91/30 round receiver to fit that price range . you can prolly also find a nice 22 model 60 or a revelation 120 , maybe a Marlin 795 all for about that 125 limit

Welcome to the ODT. Haven't been here long myself, but it's a blast. You can't go wrong w/ the M44 or any in that line. Great to learn on. I'm sure someone on here might have one they may let go. Have fun and good luck in your hunt!

the 44 is gonna be hard to find in the price you looking at though . the 91/30 can be had fairly easy , and the type 53 can be bought at aim right now for the range you are in . Oh Yeah welcome to the trader

Great, thanks for the info so quickly!

Ive done my homework on the Russian surplus but haven't gotten into the 22 market yet... Didnt even know where to begin.

Anyway, if ANYBODY is selling any of the models listed in this thread, please post here or pm me... I have cash and am willing travel a pretty good distance... Especially for an M44, Type53 or 91/30.

Ps Every online retailer I can find is out of stock on all of those.

Call oz cutlery in Newnan. He has a lot of various mosin nagants.

I am a huge fan of the Bolt Action Savage Mark II in 22lr. You can get the base models new for about $140-160 new, so you may be able to find a used one for $125. There are very versions with Picatinny rails, fluted heavy barrels and threaded barrels for around $250 and they are very accurate out of the box. They use 10 or 5 round detachable magazines and spares are easy to find.
