The Remington 870 Police is still my preferred for a pump gun.

The Mossberg 930 is a good gun, but for what they cost, I'd buy a used Benelli M1S90 instead. Also look at the Beretta 1301 Tactical; Beretta on the outside and Benelli on the inside.

I run the short LOP stocks on all my tactical shotguns, body armor or not. Had to cut the stock down on my Benelli M1......couldn't find an alternative.

I'm guessing you stand "Square" to the target & mount the Shotgun "In The Pocket" just like you do an M4...If you do that, you can get away with a shorter-than-standard Length-of-Pull with the Scattergun...If you use a more conventional Shotgun stance, the shorter LOP will oftentimes causes an unpleasant interaction between your hand on the Pistol Grip and your Face on the Stock...Ask me how I know!

And just why, you are thinking, would someone want to use a conventional Shotgun stance with a "Social" Shotgun? In my case, it's to accommodate an old Shoulder Injury that necessitates I mount the Gun ON the round part of the Shoulder instead of "In" the Pocket...Consequently, I have to stand at about a 45 degree angle to the direction of fire...May not be "Ideal", but I make it work pretty well... :)

If it’s stupid, and it works, it ain’t stupid.

Alexander's in Blairsville had the 590A1 with XS sights for $350 and the 590A1 with ghost ring sights for $400 as part of their September specials. Might want to call and see if they have any in stock.

590 or 590A1. Full stock and tube-fed.

I’ve seen too many 500’s choke and puke to trust them. Only folks I would recommend a 500 to are my enemies.
So are you saying there's a big difference in the 500 and 590 aside from the barrel and magtube?? I'm far from an expert and not being sarcastic at all. I've owned an early model 590 and a couple of 500 models. Since about 2009 I've had a 20" 8 round model 500A. From the receiver back I don't see any difference. But then again it's been over 20 years since I owned a 590.

The difference between the 590 and the 590A1 is that the 590A1 has a thicker barrel, metal trigger group, and metal safety button.

Good deals.

I’ve picked up used 870 Police models for $175 - $250 from Ed’s Public Safety, but it’s hit-and-miss.
