I think the biggest threat at least for the next year are solar flares...we have a multiple EMP generator right there and we are going into the "hyper active" cycle.

Actually any one of these will start a domino effect and we'll end up in the same place...
 
I'm thinking it is a toss-up....

Between a financial collapse and some troubles with the electrical grid,

(The chinese have been methodically "mapping" our grid using computer trojans and viruses for years..... They definitely are doing it for a reason.)
 
I think that most SHTF scenarios we will encounter will be small ones that we deal with in everyday life. I think that societal/moral collapse due to financial issues and demoralization of the populace is likely.
 
IMO it'd be a socio-financial crisis. If the economy gets much worse good people are going to start doing bad things to make ends meet and feed their kids. It would seem to me that it would only escalate from there.....
 
One thing people never take into account are the amount of safety nets we have in place beyond just welfare and foodstamps. I'm talking actual fiscal regulations that are able to activate during dire times. The world is far too valuable to just let burn these days, it's not like the 1920's. Resetting the debt, or all out war would be the first thing prior to any depression here in the U.S.
