My 2019 goal is to get a new scanner. Until then pictures of pictures will have to do. The pictures are from July/August 1983. Mt. Etna was active when I took them.
The view from the Terrace. Giarrie is located on the east coast of Sicily. Mount Etna has three craters and they are located on the west side of the volcano.
I took these pictures up close and personal from the east side of Mount Etna. I got up early one morning and drove as far up the roads as possible, then I hiked up the east side of Mount Etna. At first I thought I was sweating from the hike. As I was taking the pictures I realized another hundred or so yards I would have reach the top of the east side. That's when I figured out I was sweating from the heat of the volcano. I finished taking the pictures and got the hell out of there.
For a point of reference I was using a 35 mm lens.
